Even though the club sandwich was first introduced in the late 1800′s, I have had less than a handful in my entire life. It’s quite a shame really considering it’s one of the classic American lunch foods, but after I’m done working through all 9 of Como’s Pete’s club sandwich options, I should be all caught up to speed.
Never having been much of a club guy myself, I figured this would be a great way to get introduced to them. Como’s Pete’s #4 club sandwiches include all the originals like the Bacon Club along with some surprising twists like the Cheeseburger Club and Chicken Salad Club.
I decided to start with the Baby Club Sandwich- a pretty standard combination of turkey, bacon, and American cheese with mayonnaise, lettuce and tomato. It came out sliced, quartered, and perfectly toasted. As you can see in the picture, the ingredients are laid out in what proved to be an intriguing, yet delicious quandry. You see, I wasn’t sure how to go about eating it. Do you put the meats and cheese on top and the vegetables on bottom? Or the vegetables on top and meats and cheeses on the bottom? Naturally, I tried both.
I’m still not sure which is the right way to eat it, or if there even is a right way to eat it. I don’t think it really matters as it was delicious both ways. Each bit proved to be a mouthful, but the north-south dimensions didn’t prove to be too big to eat comfortably. The whole sandwich itself was more than plenty as it filled the plate with just enough space in the middle for a handful of fries to be tossed in.
The bread wasn’t your average Wonder Bread stuff, it tasted fresh and had good texture to it. The ingredients were ample but not overpowering one or the other. The bacon was crisp, the meat juicy, the vegetables fresh, and the cheese cool. They blended together very well and go perfectly with fries. I prefer curly but I’m sure steak fries will do in a pinch. I’ll be sure to order them next time and let you know!
Overall, I have to say the Como’s Pete’s #4 Baby Club was a solid meal that really hit the spot. In the future, I will be ordering it when I need to eat a hearty lunch but am not in the mood for a burger or chicken. It’s light, fun, a good mix of flavors, and comes with four free toothpicks. What’s not to love?
Patsy & Avery Wood eat at Pete’s for dinner at least 4 days per week. To say they’re regulars around here would be putting it mildly! Especially since Avery has been coming to eat at Pete’s since 1960 and Patsy since the 70′s. After 50 years, they’re more than customers – they’re Pete’s family! Avery […]
David McMurray, aka the hamburgler, has been coming to our restaurant for over 20 years now. As you might have guessed, he almost always orders a hamburger and is a big fan of every burger on our menu. He enjoys coming to lunch here because he usually runs into friends who also work in the […]
Our customers of the month for January 2014 are Harold & Rhonda Carey. They have been coming to Como’s Pete’s #4 since 1970 and are big fans of the food, staff, and other customers. They consider our restaurant to be a neighborhood destination for the Augusta Street community! We’re always happy to see Harold & Rhonda come […]
